I have been thinking about a Karelian bear dog, but don't think they are for me. I am looking for a dog to track bear. I do a LOT of bear hunting according to my wife. Also, the dog must protect me from charging moose. Big problem were I live. So far I know they are a gentle family dogs that have a odor and are oily. That fits most of our dogs. I was born in Dothan Alabama. My cousins live in Geneva. If I get one I would like for it to come from that part of the country if possible.I have lived up here for a long time. I don't want to get in any politics. I love dogs, the good, the bad, and the ugly. As I get older I need one to help me out a little. Any help would be appreciated. You can email at cubguy@alaska.net. Again I really don't know much about these dogs. But, what little I do know has impressed me.

I would think a karelean dog or Laika spitz type dog would fit your needs better . You could find a plott that would do it but your percentage of what you are looking for would be better with something other than a dog with a desire to go on a track for long lengths of time. A Jagd terrior would also do very well for you.
