How to break her into deer hunting?

Shane, Thanks. Appreciate the advice. I've already started with pots and pans.

Took her deer hunting last week and she was deathly afraid to go near any game, only wanted to run the other way (wide eyed, tail between the legs, shaking style). I've never had a plott react this way so not sure how to break her in any suggestions?

In many states, it's illegal to hunt deer with dogs and IMHO, less sporting. Besides you would want your dog to pay attention to bear, cougar, and hog than deer.

In my opinion running deer with dogs is just as sporting as any other method of hunting them. If it's any less sporting using dogs, the same argument could be used of the use of dogs on any game.

I agree with you that it's a personal preference. Texas passed a ban on deer hunting with dogs a while ago because once deer season was done, lots of dogs..esp hounds were abandonded in the countryside or were harassing people due to starvation and such. Apparently some deer hunters just get dogs (either from animal shelters or private breeders) for deer season then throw them out to avoid having to feed them year round. Deer season is not very long in Texas. Not every deer hunter did that but it was enough to make people complain plus as you know, dogs can't read no trepassing signs and sometimes would push the deer onto private properties where hunting wasn't allowed therefore people complained. With more urban people moving into the countryside, this was bound to happen sooner or later. Personally I just don't want a dog hunting deer when I want that dog to hunt certain game....hogs is my preference.

TedH71 ~ I hear Ya'. If I was going to run dear with dogs, it would be as they do back home, with Beagles. I definitely wouldn't waste a Plott on them!

I'm not for anyone abandoning dogs in the woods at all!!

You also see guys that run coyotes with their Plotts. Heck, we have enough problem trying to break them off coyotes out here. I sure don't want my dog running them either.
