Shane ~ You are correct Sir!!
It's also been 100 degrees and deer season is in which only allows 1 dog per hunter.!
We did have a nice cool front come in and dropped the temps into the 79's over the weekend here in the valley.
I got out for the first time of the year yesterday. It showed us some SNOW FLURRIES up there where we were. Finally got a track going around 1:30 but we weren't able to get it lined out right.
There's always the next trip.
Hope everyone's trips to the woods are going well!
Take it easy!

Re: Irv Cali is open
Well, I was finally fortunate enough to catch yesterday, (10/20/09). 3 times out, first catch. Seeing how it's only the 2nd track I've attempted to run, this isn't too bad.
Pictured below is NPHA member Dan Tichenor, myself and our friend Mark Hennelly who we caught the Bear for yesterday.
L - Dan Tichenor holding onto my dog Rebel Pride Stonewall Jackson. R - Mark Hennelly holding Dan's dog Crockett.
This Bear jumped as we arrived to the tree. I had a lot of young dogs there, and boy did that ever do them good to see that come out in front of them and run off. They all did a really great job. They put her back up about 100 yards or so farther down in the canyon.
As soon as they get done working on this house, I'll get to hit the timber hard & heavy!
Take it easy!

Irv,
e-mail me some bear hunting pictures for my last column. December is the big game issue so looking for some stories too.
Have you hunted with Dan's Jackson dog. I owned a littermate to him and hunted another littermate saturday night and put a second place win on him. Will be hunting him this weekend and hopefully can get a first.
Take care.

Tim ~ August is the Big Game issue COMBINED with the Plott issue.
Here you are wanting the pics. I was going to use them in my innaugural column.
I'll send you something!
Yes, Jackson was there too. They do a bang up job on them Bears man!!
Ole' Wade Mann told me @ the Big Game Nationals that one of these days he's coming out to hunt with Dan. HE WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!!
Provided we find a Bear to run. Which sometimes isn't the case though, but not too often.
Take it easy!

OOPS!!!!!!!!
Mr. Hickman ~ I stand corrected. It appears that they've given us back our own month. I didn't notice that they'd changed that this year.
I just saw in the magazine where the December issue is going to be combined with the Bench Show and Pleasure Hunting issue.
Sorry my friend!

Re: Irv Cali is open
Well I got out again over the weekend and we were once again successful. This was a very good day with the young dogs getting a lot of good work in! The hunt consisted of All CHC members as well as NPHA members. With the lone exception of Neil Dunn. Who is really liking the way the Brindle dogs work! I don't think it will be long now!! I'm working on him and these Plott's are doing their own convincing!
We started this track at about 9:00 Sunday morning 11-01. I didn't know it at first, but it was NPHA member Dan Tichenor's birthday.
The dogs got treed and then it sounded like some of them left in a different direction. Well, after we got there we saw that they had. We had half the pack here with this yearling and the other half left after the sow and put her up farther down the canyon. By the time we got out of the bottom of that canyon and back to the truck, and then back down into the canyon again farther down the road, it had been about 3 hours or so.
The pack of young Plotts as well as two dogs of Neil's were still playing that sweet tune that we all love to hear!!
At the 2nd tree, I was getting across the creek at the bottom of the canyon when the sow jumped. It was on again. This time to only be worked by the cunning momma bear. I didn't get any pics of that tree, only video.
In this photo is 'PR' Tichenor's Jackson, owned by NPHA member and CHC member Dan Tichenor.
This photo is of 'PR' Dornan's Spanky, owned by NPHA member & CHC member Frank Dornan.
In this photo is my year old dog, Rebel Pride Stonewall Jackson up front. Dan's dog Tichenor's Cheyenne sitting behind him. Cheyenne is a littermate to my Magnum dog out of Pocahontas Cody II and Mississippi Mud Dozer that was killed a few years back.
Corbin's Rebel Pride Stonewall Jackson.
Neil Dunn up front getting some video for me while I'm getting pics. Birthday boy Dan Tichenor in the background.
100 pound yearling in the tree. Can you see it? The sun wasn't cooperating for the pics of the BEar very well.
Another pic of the yearling. It's about halfway up. Do you see it?
This is what it's all about. Good hunts made possible by good friends, good Plott dogs, and most of all THE GOOD LORD!
I hope your hunts are as successful, and the memories they leave with you are as treasured as are mine!

Re: Irv Cali is open
Here's a few more pics from last weeks hunt, Nov 17th.
In this pic is CH 'PR' Corbin's Rebel Pride Black Ice standing on the Bear tree. She's the pup I kept out of my female, Mrs Beasly's litter last April.
Here is the littermate to Black Ice that I got back @ Plott Days. This is 'PR' Corbin's Rebel Pride Harley.
Here's Rebel Pride Stonewall Jackson on the left and Rebel pride Reba on the right.
Here's Rebel Pride Reba.
It's too bad it was so dark there with the cover as well as the storm that was coming in. Or else you'd be able to see this Bear better in this pic. It was a nice one! I'd estimate 350-400.
We were hoping to be able to re-run this one for the young dogs, but this Bear would have nothing to with that idea. It simply climbed higher in the tree and settled in to wait us out.

Re: Irv Cali is open
Here's a few pics from last Tuesday's hunt 11/24/09.
This is the cave that they ran the Bear into.
When I got to the cave, I had 3 of my 5 dogs still inside the cave with the Bear. The other 2 had been gotten out and tied up.
My Beasly female had her nosed hooked by a claw. Was bleeding, but wasn't bad enough to warrant any attention. My Harley female (Beasly's pup) on the other hand, had her right ear severed deep by the Bear's claw as well.
The Bear from the cave. My buddy harvested this bear. It was around a 225 pounder.
Here's Rebel Pride Harley's ear that was opened up.
Here's Rebel Pride Harley after my wife sewed her up for me.
It's good to be married to a Surgeon!
Take it easy!
